I'll have to get my wife's help here but when I show my dogs I try to get them into the extended trot. Most of these local shows don't have the space or the judge doesn't see the need to judge them on the ground much, relying on the bench instead. I do road work with my dogs every afternoon, I'll have to evaluate whether they are running or at the trot at certain speeds. Most of the work is between 14-18 mph according to the speedo with occasional burst up to 21 mph if they wind something. That is most certainly a run. Chris Mercer

Hi again. Just read yr post about wanting a dog to trot instead of pace. Don't all dogs pace in the walk ? At least with my dog (and I'm no expert) their trot looks like a horse's: alternate diagonals hitting the ground. (this is OT SATS, so I post this here).
