i wanna ask a question, and im open to comments, both good and bad....
do yall think moose is fat?i was given the comment on "another forum" that hes overweight.
he is HUGE for his age,but he goes to the vet regularly and the vet has told me that he isnt overweight, that he is going to be a huge dog like his sire.his sire weighed 150 pounds.
i walk him nightly at least a mile, sometimes more, and he runs in the yard everyday with my other dog a boxer,so its not like he lays around all the time.im not wanting him to be a skinny dog like the apbts(no disrespect).
so,with all of this said, what do yall think (honestly)

Honestly, I think puppies can look like they're overweight when they're not.

He is big, but i don't think he is over weight. As long as he gets his daily exercise he should be fine.

He does look big in the belly BUT did you know that Nevaeh weighed a good 55 lbs when she was 6 months old. Now that she is 14 months she is 45 lbs. Puppies tend to have baby fat and some lose it quicker than others. I know 55 lbs doesn't sound like alot to some ppl but for Nevaeh it was alot for her breed. She was really active and everything but she was a chunk. :)

Just make sure you have a regular feeding schedule on your hands. He does not look overweight to me, I think as he gets older he will slim to where he needs to be as long as he isn't being overfed. :) Moose is as cute as can be and he looks healthy, his coat is shiny, his eyes look great, so don't pay any attention to anyone if they are making you feel like your dog is overweight, they might have just been trying to help but personally I don't see anything wrong with Moose!! In the end he will grow into his body!

I think he looks a little big, but I think it is more puppy fat than anything. I think he needs the extra weight because he is going to be a big MOOSE and I think he will grow into it. As long as he is active and gets a fair dose of exercise for his age, I wouldn't worry about it. My dog even looks chubby sitting and standing he looks really thin. Post a pic of him standing from the side.

How much are you feeding him a day, what kinda food, and how old is he? Lol, sorry don't mean to ask so many questions. He does have a belly on him but like I said before, it could just still be his baby fat.

He does have a belly on him but like I said before, it could just still be his baby fat.well,im gonna be honest, and i know its not "the right thing to do" but i free feed both of them(my boxer)they have a bowl that holds about 4 cups of food, and they BOTH eat from this throughout the day.i only fill it once a day though.they both get raw bones to eat,but no table scraps what so ever.i tried feeding them just what is recommened, but both of them acted like they were starving, and im trying to put weight on my boxer.

Well, I personally am not going to yell at you but I don't no what others are going to say. I acutally used to free feed, but when I used to free feed it was putting the entire bag in a dog feeder, lmao. I stopped doing that only cuz our lab started gaining excessive amounts of weight because he didn't know when to stop eating.

Nevaeh was naturally really chubby at 6 month old but at around her being 8 months I switched all the dogs to Chicken Soup for the puppy and dog lover's soul. I fed them the same amount as I was feeding with the previous food but they started to tone up nicely on their own and lost the baby weight and their coats and poops looked way better. For Nevaeh and Faith I feed both 3 cups each once a day, it used to be 2 1/2 twice a day, but they started to look really skinny so I upped half a cup. Anyways, I just think he might be going through a phase, bullies tend to be on the heavier side anyways with a way slower metabolism (not all bullies, but most) so I truly wouldn't be worried unless he either keeps getting a belly on him or if he doesn't start to lose his baby fat by 6-7 months.

I am not here to judge or lecture you but just keep taking pictures and side shots and stuff and updating because I would love to see how he turns out for sure. The free feeding you are doing doesn't sound bad at all unless for some reason one dog decides to geed food aggression against the other dog someday. I know Nevaeh has extreme food aggression with other dogs so I just feed them all in a crate. :)

naw,no food aggression at all yet anyway.thats actually something the vet asked about last week as well.they share everything as though they were one.its funny really, they chew on the same toy at the same time, eat at the same time everything.and i hope and pray it stays like that.ive read where they can get fa,but i hope this doesnt happen.thanks for all the advice...and not yelling at me!lmao:)

I thought I was the one who told you about it, lmao. Idk, but I just know I never heard of it before until Roxy mentioned it, it's all good though kumhomomma. :D

Yes Chicken Soup is awesome but since Zoe went on to adult food I have since changed over to TOTW and I am in love. Zoe was alittle chubby before and didn't have the little tummy tuck. We went over to TOTW and everything has been great. She loves it. We will be putting Thor on it at around 6 to 8 months old....

I don't think Moose looks overweight but he does look like he has baby chub....

Yes, I think he is a little chunky. But who knows, he might just be like that, he might just have puppy fat, he might be eating too much, or he might not be getting enough exercise.

hmm yeah he looks a little on the hefty side. You should be able to see a tuck ( where his stomach comes in just before his legs) on him and some tappering in when looking from the top (the equivilant of a waist the sides dip in just after the rib cage)

too much extra weight on puppies can be hard on their joints. I'd stop free feeding him and go to maybe twice a day no more than two cups at a time. :) He looks happy though!

What kind of activities do yall do for exercise? My suggestion (i know its more work) but let your boxer free feed and cut down on mooses intake. If he is used to eating frequently you can just split what most dogs would eat in two meals into three. PUPPIES ARE GONNA ACT LIKE THEY HAVENT EATEN IN DAYS. THATS PUPPIES!! lol

IMO he is a bit chubby, but given his age he is not OVERWEIGHT. He can probably be conditioned a bit.. And like Christy said to where he gets a tuck just before his hind legs.

Also... take into consideration he is not an apbt correct? Am Bullys will have a different structure and wont conform to the same standards. While a bully shouldnt be overdone, I believe that they will differ because of different breeds being mixed in.

He's a looker though. Dont sweat it. Just maybe try and get some vigorous activity.

I think he is a bit chubby now, but I think in a month or 2 he will have a growth spurt and will probably thin out. I free feed and swear by it. If done right, and from the beginning it prevents food aggression and over eating because they never see it as a valuable resource, its just something there to grab a bite of once in a while. Plus I never have to worry about being home to feed the dogs, or if I'm out with Lady worry that the others are home waiting to be fed. With puppies they often grow out before they grow up. You can try distracting him when you see him eating sometimes, like if you think he's not hungry and just bored, offer a toy, or take him out to fetch.

LOL no, i'm sorry what i meant was their tummies grow out (meaning they get a bit pudgy) right before a growth spurt. Sorry for the confusion.
