Well, I have no other options and need some advice/help from the forum. Due to certain circumstances i've had to move back in with my parents for the time being. They live in a nice neighborhood and own their home. When I first moved back in, home owners insurance came to do a check, and found my dog in the backyard. They labeled him a restricted breed and canceled so my parents had to get new insurance and my dad wouldn't let me keep him there anymore. My friend watched him for a month but that also got old and he could no longer watch him. Now I have no friends to watch/take him and I don't know of any insurance company that will work around owning a APBT. So anyone that knows a way around the insurance deal please let me know. Also, if anyone in Florida wants my dog, he will go free to a good home. I love my dog very much and this is the last thing I want to do but it seems my options are limited. I reside in Citrus County but would drive him anywhere in Florida as long as I was confident in the new owners. His name is Marley and he is 19 months old, chocolate with a white patch on his chest and white on his feet. Very playful and energetic, gets along great with kids and people, and is house trained. Only has ever had a problem with other non neutered male APBTs. He is not papered but i seen the parents and he turned out very well. Anyways he is free to a good family or someone with alot of property because he does like space when its available. I hope someone here can help out because I really love this dog and would feel better knowing he went somewhere he will be happy. Pictures available upon request...or there are some old ones in my recent posts.

Sorry to hear that you are having a hard time! I also live in citrus county however I rent, so I have never had to worry about home owners insurance!

Who did your parents have home owners with when they canceled?

Im not sure who they had but I know the next company said the same thing about the dog. Said it was common and we wouldnt find anyone willing to cover an APBT..I dont understand..does EVERYONE rent that owns a pitbull? There has to be something I can do.

I'm not sure, did you try calling individual companies yourself?

State farms
progressive
allstate
geico

I don't know , hopefully someone will chime in and be able to help you more!

Why did the insurance guy show up? I have never herd of a insurance company just popping up in the yard? I mean was he there to look at something regarding your home or what?

We where kicked out of a apartment once due to our breed! But when we moved into where we are now, we made damn sure the landlord was aware of the dog and the breed before we moved in here and even had him include him on the lease! I know that is different than insurance, but I can understand where you are at because we had seven days to find a place and get out of our apartment or rehome our dog! There was no way we where re homing him, he counts on us, so we had to do what we could to keep him! Talk about fast moving lol. We even had a few members from the site pitch in and help us with the move!

I called a few myself and so did my dad. They all said the same thing.

The reason the insurance guy came was just to do a check on the property..they do it rarely but i guess it was just our time. And since we've been dropped for having a restricted breed, everyone we try to get different insurance from already knows about it and flags us so we are more likely to get checked again.

I really dont want to rehome my dog..this is the 3rd time i've had problems with living arrangements because of him (apartment complexes in gainesville and tampa charged outrageous when they found out he was APBT) but have always figured something out before. hopefully i can get some more ideas from everyone.

I'm sorry you are going through this, and I am sorry for your dog. I don't have much to suggest but hope you find the right solution for all and wish you good luck.

Just moved out of Citrus into Hernando and in both county I had to get home owners and we got it through Citizens with no issues they did not even ask what type of breed I had.

OH and Susan that paper you got from the last place was just that a piece of paper. I told Kevin that in no way can they force you out with in 7days. Being a ex land lord in Citrus it takes no less than 30 days to get a noticed to get you out of the house and that is hand delivered to you by the Citrus count Sheriff and depending on if you have kids or not can take up to 3 months and $1500 in court cost :) trust me we tried to get people out it is not a easy thing.
