Hello everyone, I have been on a few other APBT sites and just found this one. I am a single dad of 4 boys and have a 4 1/2 month old APBT named Ariya. My main goal is just to learn as much as I can about this misunderstood breed. This is our 3rd APBT as our other 2 passed away due to old age a few years ago. Look forward to reading everyones posts on here and learning new things! I attached a pic of Ariya, she is a little over 3 months in the pic!!!

Welcome !
The best way to do this breed justice is to learn how to train correctly. As APBTMOMMY said, this is an excellent resource :

I agree on the training. I got a ways to go but I have been training her 3x a day about 15-20 minutes each time. So far she's got the basics down, sit, stay, and come. She walks great on a leash but when she sees another dog she gets excited. Im trying to find some people with dogs so she can socialize with them. I also got her where when someone comes over she isnt all hyper and jumping on them. She will go over to them and sniff then start kissing them to death lol...

Good for you, that you're already started training. However, "socializing" dogs can be counter productive, and in fact dangerous if you don't fully understand what drives the breed. Problems usually appear when the dog comes out of puppy stage. Please read George Bailey's posts (do a search) on socializing dogs.

Thanks for the heads up. This is the 1st time we have only 1 dog, before it was usually 2 so they were good with other dogs. I know APBT are DA and as long as the owner understands it and is able to control their behavior that limits the problem. I will look into and read up before introducing her to other dogs.
I live in a small town and there are quite a bit of people who walk their dogs without a leash or let them roam in their yards unattended. I always walk Ariya on a leash and have to be careful because if one of those unleash dogs approach her and something happens I know Ariya would be blamed. So what I have been doing is avoid walking her where I know those dogs are.

2 weeks ago me and my 2 youngest boys were walking Ariya and this older couple stopped us and told us how much they liked our dog. The lady asked if she could pet her and I said yea. She bent down and Ariya sat there calmly and started licking the lady. The lady said how well behaved the dog was for being a puppy then asked what kind of dog she was...after I told her both her and her husbands attitude changed and she backed away like Ariya had the plague and was like what the majority of people say, is she gonna bite me? I had a good 5 minute conversation with them about how they are misunderstood, their amazing loyality, and the basics. They said they never knew a lot of the things I told them so it was good that happened.
