Salmon Oil and raw Eggs (including Shells)

I used to do the vitamin e or the fish oil caplets too. they work but i found out if i just feed them fish with natural fish oils in it and other vitamin E soures it works too! So heres how i prepare my dogs food.
1 day a week i give a raw egg with the shell(the egg has protein and many vitamins in it they say the shell provides calcium or something but i doubt it can dissovle intime to really benefit, it does clean out the intestinal tract well though)
1 day a week i give either canned salmon, sardines, herring, whatever is on sale in there food 1 can each dog. This provides some extra protein and vitamins that there regular kibble doesnt have AND brings in the fish oils.
1 day a week i add raw ground beef (i am going to start cooking it because of a suggestion i got from a very good dog owner whos dog got sick from eating cooked pork I WILL NEVER FEED PORK NOW. I will cook it in the oven covered so it retains alot of moisture and fat mmmmm)
7 days a week i add 1 heaping TBL spn cottage cheese for the added fats and protein. (many people say dogs arent supposed to eat dairy BAH HUMBUG!!)
7 days a week i add a heaping TBL spoon of Yogurt to help with there digestive tract(dairy thing again HOOOEY!)
7 Days a week i add 1 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar to aid in balancing the PH in their urine, eye goobers, water intake, etc.
i used to add olive oil or flax seed once in awhile but i dont think i need it anymore. cuz of all the other amenitites.

When I am preparing food, I often give the pups some raw chicken, the fatty parts I cut off, a few chunks each. I give 1 tab of salmon oil per day each (Thrall gets 2). I give Lady 1 glucosamine and chondroitin per day to help heal her from her surgery, I used to give it to Thrall, but it made him CRAZY, and he hurt himself running around, I am gonna start giving him 1 before bed, and see if it works out better then. I have considered giving some apple cider vinegar, maybe pouring it over food. Since I free feed, I do not put water in their food because it will get all water logged and puffy and Thrall hates it like that, plus hard food protects and cleans their teeth. They never eat much at once because its always available, and they always drink right after they eat. Lady drinks all the time, I think she didn't get enough water at her "breeders" because she loves it. Vet says she's fine, she just likes water lol. Whenever I fill the bowl, she HAS to drink, even if she wasn't in the room lol, suddenly she needs water.

always a controversial subject but being a body build/ power lifter I believe in them and use some on my dogs. Here is my list;
fish oil with vitamin E (long term use of fish oil can lower "E" level so the added "E" is to make sure.
dried alfalfa-Alfalfa is a pure source of nature's own chlorophyll A & B. Chlorophyll promotes freshness (breath) and reduce pet odors.
dried kelp-abundant source of minerals, amino acids and vitamins - including essential trace minerals. These nutrients are essential for the production of enzymes that promote healthy body functions.
Prozyme- digestion (farts)
VG750 joint care and pain management- both my guys are up there and have arthritis. Athena has had knee surgery at 2 (luxating patella and torn ACL)

So you load the muscles with creatine before competition to get there maximum output? Do You achieve positive results? I have been looking for something like that. In this summer heat the dehydration n creatine combo can wreak havoc on kidneys. Do you find your dog retains alot if extra water weight with the RF-1? What serving amounts do you use? Do you have a "keep" you do before a WP competition? And how do you incorporate the RF-1 into your training regimen?

When competing we supplement with eggs, fish oil and Vertex.
Dansgrizz

vertex is extra proteins n fats right?
Xavier777
06-28-2009, 12:36 PM
I had the same concern when I first found it. I wondered how the creatine would effect their weight as well as dehydration. The product has eloctrolytes that help aid in the dehydration field...but I still have plenty of water available and have their workouts at the butt crack of dawn. So far there has not been any substantial weight gain from the extra water weight. One scoop daily 1 month before a competition and I work with the muscle shock method. I vary their workouts as much as possible so that their muscles are constantly being shocked and worked in different ways. This is the same way a human grows his/her muscles faster as well. I vary the wieght a lot. Sometimes I go a whole week having him pull heavy...and the next week light weight with a further distance being pulled. So far I notice the difference.

Do you pull ukc or adba? What's your dogs most weight pulled or highest body pound?
Xavier777
06-28-2009, 01:19 PM
Adba. max was at 7600 at 60lbs. He has since leaned down to 55lbs and still pulls the same amount. I really dont go over 40-50 lbs around the yard though. i shoot for distance and reps. I also dont let them run with it.

I guess my only question is what type of transporter (sugar) in being used for the creatine?
Here is the rundown the website lists as what is in the stuff...
What do you reccomend as a sugar to transport the creatine?
RF-1 is our nutrient-rich supplement for all dogs over 5 months of age and particularly for athletic and hard-working dogs preparing for an event. RF-1 combines powerful amino acids, colostrum, creatine monohydrate, MCT's, Omega 3 fatty acids, glucose polymers, vitamins, chelated minerals, electrolytes, glucosamine and other anti-inflammatory and immunity

No that is perfect. No sugar crash, NO SUGAR, and the glucose polymer will give better creatine absorption.
I was just wondering because when I went to the sight I didn't see ingredients. And in order for creatine to get into the muscle it needs a form of sugar.

titan1- you brought out probably one of the only downfalls Ive had in researching creatine. The transporter! high glycemic carbohydrates are the best way to go and dextrose being the number one effective transporter. There are a lot of low glycemic carbohydrates that I use so far. I had to also consider the fact that there are responders and non responders with creatine. So creatine could effectively work for one dog.....and be vice versa for the other. I tried it out on a "cross my fingers" basis and so far I have seen a difference in my two year old APBT. Some low glycemic carbohydrates : Chicken, turkey, cornish hen, venison, yogurt. over all these wont really effect the insulin spike needed but do help aid in low glycemic carbs. Again...creatine is just one ingredient and not the sole ingredient to the product. I believe it also has a glucose polymer. I will double check it when I get home. Great question!

wow sounds like theyre health nuts. youre doing a really good job. I did notice you said you didnt believe the calcium in the eggshell. Well I know theyre not as good, but every time I eat scrambled eggs or omelettes I prepare them with egg beaters.. And if youve ever tried them you will see that the ingredients include the egg shell. And it has a lot of nutrients, calcium being one.
I have noticed that Chino has eyeboogers every once in a while. There is no coloring, they dont seem to be often but would the apple cidar vinegar help?

Dansgrizz

StaffyDaddy-You can also try Yakult. If you havent heard of it google it. They are the pioneer of probiotics.Yakult is a fermented dairy drink that contains probiotic cultures rather than yogurt cultures. The main difference between yogurt and probiotic cultures is that probiotics must have scientifically proven health benefits while yogurts do not. Another point of distinction is the type of cultures; probiotics are typically various species and strains of lactobacilli or bifidobacteria, while yogurt starter cultures are specifically Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, according to the National Yogurt Association.

Xavier777

Too many raw eggs can upset a dog’s stomach, as well as affect the dog’s white blood cell count. Too many raw eggs can also cause your dog other ailments as the yolk is extremely fatty and contains a lot of cholesterol. This can be a problem. IMO I wouldnt go more then one egg per week.

the dogs get a multi vitamin, flax seed oil, fish oil, and yogurt or cottage cheese daily. If anyone feeds raw do you know if I have to do the yogurt/cottage cheese every day? I've been doing it without any problemos, but i was just curious about the amount. I'm still new to it all.

Czar is having really bad skin flaking issues, and his coat is getting all messed up. What would be a good supplement for skin and coat? I heard both Salmon oil and Flaxseed oil is good, any suggestions?
Dansgrizz
10-20-2009, 11:09 AM
Solid gold seameal, it's flaxseed n seaweed. It makes the coat shine. Is he being sun burned? That will cause excessiveskin flaking and blue dogs are highly susceptible to the suns rays. I use solid gold seameal and I noticed ahufe difference, the coathas adeep rich shine and it noticably softer.
Checked out the sea meal, looks really good, i might try out the 8oz bottle and test it out and see if it makes a difference. How much of it do you feed your dogs?
As for being sun burnt, he does goes out in the sun, but only for a little while, but his skin flakes pretty much all the time. So i am sure if the sun could be causing the flakes.
Dansgrizz
10-20-2009, 11:23 AM
1 tbl spoon a day. Not heaping just a tblspoon.
Thanks. Seameal you use is in powder form right? I ask because some places i looked for them could be misleading, as they advertise some as just seameal and some as seameal powder.

Yah I got a 1 lb green container with a gold label. It is a real fine grind almost powder. I usually shake out a tbl spoon like I'm putting some essence on it, BAM!! I got this bad ass holistic dog food store near me, it's got a whole aisle of dog vitamins.
Awesome, thats what i will be getting the green bottle with the gold sticker.
Also Dan, you mentioned you use RF-1, have you noticed any definitive advantage of using it? Also do you use it on a day to day basis or only when they are training to compete?

I feed kibble breakfast and raw dinners and add a fish oil gel twice a day and E every other day plus eggs (with ground shell) at least weekly or more and occasional yogurt or cottage cheese.
Was thinking of adding in some flax gels that we take (I hate the fishy burps!) -- wondering what rate I can give those? I was considering replacing one of the fish oils every other day with the flax - is that in line with any of you??? I also feed canned or fresh fish once a week.
I used to feed missing link or sea meal but got off of that and didn't notice any dramatic results/differences. Been half thinking of adding kelp again, tho... just cuz.
