I was researching some information on pretein in a dogs diet and I came across this thread in another forum. Take a look at it....

i think protein is something people have a hard time understanding. the % is meaningless if the protein source is of poor quality.
IMHO this is what people are missing when it comes to protein...here is a great read..http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=protein
the second link susan provided is also great information.

Thanks I was just trying to get an idea of everything my self and I know that a while back Dan had asked about the protein and fats for a dogs diet , so I figured that I would try to do a little research myself on it, and of course came across the two links that I posted above.

I am still a little confused though. I mean, is there enough water(moister) in the dogs food? If so is it enough to be able to process the protein intake without making the kidney and liver work over time... I think that the two have me all messed up...can someone please explain this to me?

My main thought is on that dogfoodproject.com site. I don't know what to make of that woman who wrote it. Her credentials seem great, but the site seems like a low key scheme to get someone to buy a "personalized feeding plan." Probably costs an arm and a leg.

I still havnt seen a magic ratio i think i will actually hav to get a text book and research the metabloic process of a dogs cells. It uses the fats for energy then builds its muscles with proteins. So how much energy(fat) is needed to build so many muscles(protein) thats my question i keep asking LOL.

Oh and add LOTS of water in your dogs food. FLOAT it in like and inch or more of water. It has been coolewr lately here and the dogs havnt been drinking as much so i give them mmore water in tehre fod like 2"+. I also add a tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar. I notice when i give them more water in there food they turn there food into energy ALOT quicker i mean i really notice it in there walks and work.

What does fat =? Why are dogfiods low carb bit still give dogs plenty of energy?

okay the low carb foods are the "good" carbs so they are efficient.. okay fats do convert to energy but it cant just be any kind of fat. you have to have a chain of quality fats, carbs and protein to be even doing right by your dog. you have to have all quality ingredients
