What food and how much are you giving to your pitbull ? Im currently looking to switch from Wellness to something else. I currently switched to adult food a month ago or so and the stools seem to be loose. And i do notice that he sheds alot, which im sure the food has a little to do with that. So any input and feedback would be awsome, thanks everyone.

I use the orijen. At first, the stool seemed big, but not loose at all. Now it has leveled out and the stool is relatively small for the amount of food being eaten, still not loose. Its always the same exact stuff in the yard now. It's very easy to clean up. I'm very happy with it.

I use the Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Sould and the Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul!! It is a really great great food. When I swithed to that I noticed a huge difference in my dogs coat, tone, and poop right away. Plus they seem much happier. It is a really really great price for a good quality food. I pay $30 for a 30 lb bag.

I stared off raw, but it just got waay too complicated getting the right nutrition. You really have to be a amateur nutritionist to do it right. So LiiL_Locz suggested that i go with Orijen, and many other members use it as well. I tried it out, and Czar is been doing great on it.

We also feed orijen. Sense we have started him on orijen we see coat looking better, have had no problems with him being sick, stools are nice and firm and as stated above easy to clean up out of the yard. While we where feeding wellness the stools where always different and never the same and hard as hell to clean up out of the yard. Good luck with your next choise;)

I've had to stop adding water to Remy's food. She just didn't like the food like that. The orijen doesn't fall apart in water, it absorbs the water and becomes almost chewy.

I'll add Merrick canned here and there. I call it crack in a can.

Hopscotch will actually start to shiver when she sees I'm adding canned to the food. The Merrick Wing-a-Ling sends them over the edge.

how long does she take to eat it? my food (pinnacle and evo) doesnt have time to fall apart LOL it floats on the surface and the boys devour a bowl filled with food and water and goodies in like 5 minutes... look like some grunts at chow time. Yah im not so sold on orijen, i dont see why my dog needs that much protein from dry kibble, id rather use un processed proteins if i want a boost in the protein. Chicken, or ground beef, or sardines, or something....

06-28-2009, 09:30 AM
I started off with Canidae, taste of the wild, and orijen. Now I use the raw prey model diet(10% organs, 10% bone, and 80% muscle meat). I could see the difference within days of them being on it. The reason I do this is because I dont believe that our dogs digestive system have been extensively changed over time from their wild wolf counterparts in the process of being domesticated. This is why I dont feel the need to feed them veggies or fruits. They usually refuse veggies even if I attempt to give it to them anyways. I mix the meals up ,these include but are not limited to : chicken ,turkey, venison, beef, pork shoulder, rabbit, canned or frozen mackarel, lamb, duck, canned salmon, canned sardines, green tripe, goat, elk, organ meat, heart, whole cornish hens with complete organs intact, raw blood and cooke (usually find this in Asian style markets),kidney, liver, gizzards, etc...
It also helps to have a butcher in the family. I get quality meat at a very reasonable price. Sometimes free! wooohooo cant beat the free!

LOL, do not get the large breed formula.

I am on the orijen site comparing the difference. The only noticeable difference is the large breed has lesser crude fat % and higher carb %. Large breed also has lower omega-6. Other than this, the foods are identical.

The red is tempting. But i donno, i am a fan of fish, so i will try that first, and depending on if Czar likes it i will switch to reg adult or red. I wonder if they will give me samples at the store to test if Czar likes it.

I met this really cool sales guy at the store, he has 3 pits himself, and he just started on Orijen, he gave me a bunch of coupons worth 50 bucks free for my next orijen purchase.:biggrins:. I can try asking him for a small sample of all three kinds.

Not sure if any one has said it because i did not look over the whole topic but most feed stores carry Seminole dog food it is a very good feed it helps with the coat and is very health for them as well. Only down side to it is that the dog will drive you out of the room with farts.

Yeah, diet plays probably the most important part of conditioning. I think for a adult dog 2 cups a day should be sufficient. Plus at least in my case, he gets random treats here and there throughout the day.
