question on vacc

So I have been fighting with my aunt about this and have called a few vets for solid info but got mixed answers.
My aunt seems to think after a dog gets its FIRST shots it is done and doesnt need anymore.

I had a few vets say that dogs over 12 months of age only need their boosters and rabies because they are imune?

thn I have some say a dog needs all their shots seres before booster at ANY age so I am pretty confused. I would love a correct answer to know what is the truth so I can tell her. >.<

First, all veterinarians think differently depending on their schooling and age, in my opinion.

Secondly, I've been in the veterinary field since 1988. I had 2 years of pre-vet, and a year of vet-tech (I'm a student).. so with that info, I can now give you my opinion.

Tell your aunt, that after the first series of vaccines (8,12,16-Rabies at 16weeks), all vaccines should be boostered in one year. After that, the rabies vac is given every 3 years. "Regular" vacs are every year until your dog is a certain age (depending on the vets protocol).
When it comes to vaccines, 'Standard' depends on the vet and your dogs lifestyle.

Suprised no one has mentioned titters.... Why vaccine when your immunities are already high?

So what is titter and thanks for the info but I had already told her that. So what about if a dog NEVER got its shots? do they do the seres like it were a puppy or the boosters? I said the seres because they want to make sure the dog is protected but she says they don't need shots and if they do the first set is the only one you really need are the boosters to get the vacc and rabies. She is a BYB and a horrid pet owner. I have tried getting her contact from other family members but they wont budge. I was going to call NSPCA on her for neglect and starving her dogs aswell as her husband beating them UGH.

i do titers here. Peanut hasn't been vaccinated since he was a puppy (rabies exempt because of laws) he is 2 years old. i do not believe in the need to re-vaccinate. you do not make the animal "more immune" each time you vaccinate. it is unessicary to re-vaccinate.

i have even been told by my veterinarian that boostering can be avoided with titers with puppies.

I will have to look into that here and see what the test costs will be. I wouldnt mind getting the girls vacc'd every 2 or three years.

we have VPI it covers your choice of vaccines or vaccine titers. it is $35 for the titer. our vet does the blood work in house so we get the results back pretty quick too.

dang! I read it runs from 100 and up. I am going to call the vet tomorrow about the prices here.

yeah i think our vet charges $50 for it without insurance.
