i know this isnt a cat forum, but i have a question im hoping someone can answer.
this past winter we rescued a stray female cat,and made her a home on our porch to get out of the elements a bit.well,3 weeks ago,she came to the porch with a baby, and dropped it at my feet.i followed her as she left to go into the woods, and found her nest that contained 5 more kittens.i brought the momma kitty and her babies into the house and have been caring for them, but the mom still goes in and out,as i cant get her to use a litterbox.here is my question.can she get pregnant again even though she is still nursing her litter?i ask this because there have been 2 tom cats trying their damnest to get at her,and at night i can hear them fighting.i plan to raise these babies and then try my best to give them a good home..but by no means do i wanna start being a cat breeder either!!!help!

Yes she can get pregnent again. Some say it is impossible but it has happened to one of the strays here. If you have the time and money, once she stops nursing, take her in to get spayed, just so that way you don't end up with 100s of cats around your house, even if she is a stray. Our female around here is 90% wild so I had to trap her to take her in. Well I wish you luck and good job on your part for caring for her kitties. :)
The next time you see her, take her to the vet to get spayed. That is the only way to stop her from having more babies. Since she goes in and out on her own, its only a matter of time before she gets pregnant again.

Link on cat heat cycles, I would get her spayed as soon as her kitties are weaned.

Once the kitties are weaned, take her to be spayed, I believe they will even spay a pregnant cat, but ideally you would want to have it done before she gets knocked up again. You can even lock her and the kitties in a large crate, and offer a litter pan, that way she might be pissed off at being locked up, but she won't get pregnant. Also, she can get stds from the males, so she needs shots, the kittens probably have worms and should be wormed as well. The sooner you take her to the vet and have vaccinated, spayed, and checked out the better for all involved.

I belive that cats usually wont get prego until there milk has dried up. Once she no longer feeds the kittens she will more than likely get prego pretty fast...even if the kittens are just nursing once or twice a day she will be more prone to getting knocked up again....I suggest that after she stops nursing the kittens and there able to eat regular food to go and get her fixed or esle you are going to end up with more cats than you know what to do with.
To Floorcandy .....yes they can and will spay a cat that is already pregnant....it just like an abortion. If you have an idea that she might be pregnant then you can tell your vet and usually once its been done the vet will ask you if you want to know before telling rather she was or not.

Yes cats will still get pregnant EVEN if they still are nursing a litter... I know because my cat did it :(
She nursed the kittens and right BEFORE they were fully weaned, she already had a litter growing in her tummy... so as soon as those kittens are weaned, get her fixed. It was ridiculous!
