So lately I've been noticing some bumps on Enzo by his hair raised in those areas also by the feel when you pet/rub him. At first I thought he might of got bit by some ants when we went to my friends property. I kept an eye on those bumps and they started to go away, but now more are starting to show up. I dont think it is fleas since he really doesnt scratch himself that much and I dont think its ants or mosquitoes. I think its too cold for the mosquitoes and I havent seen any ant hills/mounds in the backyard, plus he doesnt roll around in the grass. He is really only outside if I'm out there playing with him or if I'm doing something in the yard.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? Maybe an allergic reaction to something? Or could he have fleas? I have him on Advantage right now and next Tues is when he needs his next treatment. I thought it might be something in his crate but I recently washed his blankets and pillow, so I'm not too sure if there is something in there that might by causing these bumps.
Thanks in advanced,
Nate

Has he been around a cat lately, could be an allergic reaction to a spore release or polen release from a recent sunny spell. If this happens regularly every couple months or weeks I'd say its food. The allergen builds up in the system til it's too much and the dog breaks out.

Thanks Dan, I havent seens any cats in our area recently. At my friends property there is a place that borders his property that have Lions, Tigers, Panthers, Cougars, and w.e exotic cats they have. We have been there countless times so I dont think that would be it LOL. I have been in the process of switching him from Iams to Kirkland. I started to notice the bumps about a week or two after the switch began.

when I first rescued Bosco, she had bumps, which got worse over the first few weeks. Until Julie suggested some dogs are allergic to corn. Once I put her on a corn-free diet the bumps disappeared. This includes avoiding treats with corn meal, corn oil, etc.

Brian had this and we cured it with daily doses of benadryl and clavomax. Took about a week and he was all cleared up.
But we are still not 100% clear on what caused the flare up on him.

Thanks, I'll have to compare Iams and Kirkland and see

I might try this and see if it works! Thanks! What mg did you use?

We used the children's version. And gave a normal childs dose.

Use 1 mg per pound of weight on the childrens benadryl. 50 lb dog = 50mg = 2-25mg Tablets.
Grizz would break out on the royal canine, then I went to pinnacle duck n potato, sometimes break out....since I've switched to raw....not one bump.

This can sometimes be caused by a hormone spike, but not in Enzo's case. Could be that the Iams is working out of his body now. While antihistamines help get through, some homeopathic remedies might be in order to help him clear out his system and get it back on track. I'm a dabbler, not an expert, there may be others who are familiar with more natural solutions.

UPDATE
So I got home from work today and when I let Enzo outside to go to the bathroom I noticed more bumps on his back almost along his spine. I also noticed near his beck there is some hair that is starting to fall off on and around one of the bumps. The "bump" looks dried out.
So I got to thinking today is it possible Enzo might have a mild case of mange?? I'm not sure how he would of gotten it

If you have been giving benadryl and its been a few days and only getting worse. Then plz get him to a vet so they can do a tissue sample and you can get to the bottom of it as soon as possible.

BTW they almost never find mange in a skin scraping, they may offer treatment though cuz the symptoms match, i'd go for it!
Btw grizz had the same thing and it just cleared up one day I think it was a food allergy!

Im thinking it might have something to do with his food diet since they started to show up around the time I started to introduce Kirkland. Might have to try TOTW:rolleyes:

I think the vet would have to take a scraping to find out for sure.

totw is cheaper then vet..If it works then no need to get vet involved,if it dont then get vet involved. It's not like dog won't eat the food.

Lol he is pretty picky about his food. He likes to graze when he eats he. Im gonna see if the benadryl will help, if not then I will get TOTW

Remember if you go grain free that means treats too! Really the only treats I give my dogs now is fruits. Not too much fruit when they work though cuz the sugars are bad, the natural fiber is good though. I don't even let the vet feed my dog there garbage treats lol they think I'm a Nazi... No treats for YOU! Maybe he's grazing cuz the food upsets his stomach? Have you ever fed hamburger?

On a note like this I must add that vets are expensive. My current dog is a little over 1 year old and I have taken him to the vet at least 3 times, only to find out there was nothing really wrong. But I'm no dog health expert (not even close) So here is my breakdown.
trip to vet only to find out nothing is wrong = 50$ - 100$
peace of mind knowing nothing is wrong = priceless
This may be different for other ppl, I prolly have a touch of OCD, but that's how it works out for me.

Im gonna go ahead and take Enzo to the vet today since we will not have to pay for the visit since we have the puppy plan at Petsmart. It really bothers as this the 1st time we have had any issues with his coat and I just want to get to the bottom of it before he starts getting more and losing more hair.
Thanks for all the input everyone I really do appreciate it. I'm hoping its something minor like changes in the weather or the switching of the dog food. As soon as we finish this batch of Kirkland I will be heading over to Tractor Supply to pick up a bag of Taste of The Wild since I did find one not too far from my house.

They'll probably give you benedryl and send you home.
Both Kirkland and Iams have corn in them btw. Try Diamond corn free you can usually get it at any feed store.
I'd just give him some childrens benedryl and switch him to a corn free food. But if you think it warrants a vet visit, good luck. I avoid the vet as much as possible!
