The only reason i think i would use steroids was to decrease swelling so the antibiotics could take effect better after a long hard hunt where the dog got beat up pretty bad by a hog.

YES! You can protest a dog if you think there are steroids being used. It is in the disclaimer that you sign when you pull that you are using no artificial supplements. If you are found positive for steroids, they will take action against you, such as a ban or suspension.

In my mind, steroids = cheating, work your dog and do it the right way, no reason to cheat.

I believe there is Massive difference between Cortico-steroids and Anabolic and each has major differences in the effect on the body. I believe this post on steroids is in reference to Anabolic (i may be wrong) To lump the two families of drug in the same thread seems a little confusing.
Alot of people have misconceprions in regards to steroids. They can ba a very useful tool. They can seriously aid in the repair of broken bones, fractures in performance animals such as racing horses/dogs. One such product was called Re-epair and was phenomenal, i know first hand.
Steroids (Anabolic) Aid in recovery. Thats what it is. Allowing the body to recover alot quicker so you can work out more.
The work must be done or the steroids do more harm than good to the body. To achieve serious athleticism takes ALOT of hard work and know how, and steroids is just another tool.
I personally dont particularly like them for a variety of reasons but i understand there is a definate need for them.
