I was just looking at random dog bite stats and news, because i like to be updated on such things because its what drives the general public opinion about the breed. I am pretty irritated by people thinking that our dogs are vicious when equal if not more dog attacks by other breed happens all over, with the same deadly consequences.

So i came across this (http://dogattacksyouneverhearabout.blogspot.com/) blog that keeps up with dog attacks by other breeds, and i was pretty shocked to see how many of these stories are underreported, given the seriousness of the attacks. This also highlights the hypocrisy of BSL by targeting just pit bulls and a few other breeds.

Here are few examples of the more serious attack that i think should have gotten more attention, but since they are not pit bulls, they didn't. By the way all these are recent news, not years old, but few months old.

Black Lab bites humane society volunteer (http://www.postbulletin.com/newsmanager/templates/localnews_story.asp?z=28&a=418430)

Judge orders Pomeranian dog 'Gizmo' to leave Aspen, Colorado -- permanently (http://www.examiner.com/x-1028-Pet-News-Examiner~y2009m9d27-Vicious-Pomeranian-Gizmo-run-out-of-Aspen-by-judge)

-This story kind of pisses me off, not only was this dog a multiple offender, but if it was a pitbull, it would have been euthanized and there would be calls for all pitbulls to be banned.

Family Dog Attacks Toddler (http://www2.tricities.com/tri/news/local/article/family_dog_attacks_toddler/31720/)

For the rest of the stories go here (http://dogattacksyouneverhearabout.blogspot.com/). And there is a ton more of it.

The next time someone tells me, pitbulls are vicious, i am going to send them that link, and tell them, dogs bite, not just pit bulls!

Labs and lab mixes seem to have the most reports of bites. Still, I hod my position that 99% of these bites could have been avoided had the dogs been handled the right way.
No bad dogs, just bad owners.
Side note. I take great pleasure in the fact that a man that voted for BSL had his lab attack someone.

People are bit by dogs every day becouse people dont take the time to understand behavior, nor do they supervise they children and pets. 9 times out of 10 it is the people not the breed, more websites need to carry this kind of info.

Threads Merged.

I posted that same site a while ago, its a good site and shows the clear media bias about dog bites.

I was in the emergency room last week with my bro in law and there was a little boy there who was bitten by a dog in the face. His little face was all swollen and bloody. The whole side of his face!! A police man was in there talkin to the mom. There was another guy there too and it was his dog. Crazy. The dog just happened to be a jack russel terrier. Bit the boy 4 times in the face enough to draw blood and rip his nostril. Never was in the papers or anything. The dog had to be quarantined for rabies and the people got a ticket for animal at large and that was it! Such crap cause when I'm walkin my pitties they police stop and ask for tags and licenses. I carry them around now in my pocket when I walk! Dumb people suck!! Sorry long post.

We don't need to focus on or call attention to any other breeds; the point is all dogs are capable of biting and inflicting injury. The problem is, people don't manage dogs well, they don't teach them, and they tend to stand by and watch them be dogs. All too often, they are viewed as disposable. Put that together with the idyllic view the media sells us on a daily basis of sugary cuteness and we have the types of problems we have today.

i am a sucker for pitbulls, especially when they come from a shelter. they are my favorite breed of dog for sure. well when my family was looking for a dog about 8 years ago, my mom would only get a large dog if it was a poodle. well my poodle is extremely nervous when she sees people or other dogs. i believe that if she was scared enough that she would bite someone. not only is she nervous but she is also very protective and if someone tries to come near the car or my family when we walk her then she will become aggressive and start lunging, barking and growling at whatever she perceives as a threat. about a year ago when my niece started walking around she wandered over next to my poodle and probably pulled her ear or something like that. my dog snapped at her. she never got the skin and there was no problem after that. so i have to wonder, people who are against pitbulls say that pitbulls can be the best family dogs but that pitbulls will turn on their owners without warning. well look at my poodle. we have had her since she was 9 weeks old. we never wouldve expected her to snap. no dog, no matter what the breed, is 100% predictable. if cities dont want dog bites to happen, they shouldnt ban 1 breed in particular, they should ban all breeds. if cities cant ban all breeds then they shouldnt ban any breeds

When asked if my dogs will bite my smart ass response is, if they have teeth they can bite. Yes, as indicated in the news report even the mild mannered coon hound may bite. What the hell was a litter of pups and its mother doing loose. Sounds like bad management. Even Fido your best friend may have an off day so treat them accordingly and be prepared. As much as I like my dog you may not like sharing his company so I try and leave it up to the human if they care to interact.

all dog breeds bite, I actually just got bit by a little Maltese the other day and never reported it, the owner actually acted like it was my fault for standing on his porch but whatever (I was delivering a pizza that he ordered by the way). Most dog bites don't get reported at all I don't think but even the ones that do a Pomeranian biting someone doesn't sell nearly as many papers as a front page pitbull attack, someones gotta be the bad guy I guess.

well weree I live when a dog bites the person whom it bite usually just shots and kills it and never reports it unless the person who owns the dog calls the cops in which case it's perfectly legal to kill a dog to protect you or your family
