I hope im not stepping on anyones toes with this. ;)
The opening to his alligator articles by Gary Hammonds from his book A HALF CENTURY with the American Pit Bull Terrier "the early years"
Way back when, some of the locals were taking some really good bitches up to breed to the Nigger dog of Kings. I thought that they were crazy. Nigger was not only a quitter, he was a man biter, so i couldnt see the reasoning of using him to pollute the breeding made by Howard and trussell, like the old Georgia bitch. I am sure that the main reason these breeders did breed to him was the fact that he was from some of the last Jeff and Baby stuff. Mr. Williams wanted to breed his scatter bred Carver bitch, Satin Lady to a black male and Nigger was more affordable than Bully or Eli jr. I would never have suspected the dogs from any of these breedings would amount to much, inspite of dynamic backgrounds. It is another case of just going to show that the good ones come along in spite of what we humans think should and shouldnt be good.
The following articles are about the dogs i knoew first hand who were pure alligator. I still get calls, after all these years, from folkds want pure Aliigator dogs and i am here to tell you there is no such thing, to my knowledge and i refuse to misrepresent anything about these dogs. I have made a challenge more than once over the years, "show me the pedigree on that pure Alligator dog of yours." Sure enough, they have an impressive pedigree and ofen a dynamite dog but, whaen i look it over, the first thing that jumps out at me, is Stu Fowler and guess what, he is out of the old Crenshaw stuff, not Alligator.
The last one i knew of in the world, was Temer, who was off Vito and Batima. She had one litter for me and lost them all, so i sent her to the boys at Shy Town and they got pups off her and raised them by hand, but they didnt have pure Alligator male to breed her to, thus the end of the story. It makes no difference to me, but i will explain the concept. Nigger bred to Satin Lady produced Alligator, Susan Renee, and Soko. These three dogs represent a pure gene pool off Nigger and Satin Lady. When Alligator was bred to his mama, it produced Rufus dog and 500. These were pure alligator, but three quarters Satin Lady, one quarter Nigger. 500 was bred to Satin Lady again and produced Booker T, who was registered as Kings Shane. He too was pure Alligator, but was 7/8's Satin Lady and one eighth Nigger.
Alligator was bred to his sister, Susan Renee (rennie) twice, for more pure alligator dogs. The dogs off the first breeding include Kiowa(kybo), Sioux, Oneida, Seneca and Choctaw. The second breeding included Ch. Ebony, Batima and Bullgator(butterfly).
Rufus was bred to Sioux and produced Gator Gal and Vito. Vito bred to Batima produced Bull E Gator, Steel and Temer, thus the end of Pure Alligator dogs. I have never felt compelled to breed out of sentiment or just for the sake of keeping it pure, so why did i hold the key to an additional generation or two, I saw no reason to do so and see the family deteriorate.
Some of those individuals will be mentioned in this book. Some will be purposefully unmentioned because they are only names and did nothing of merit one way or the other.
Any more questions on some of these individuals dont hesitate to ask :)
