When i looked about 7 months ago to pick a food for nismo and i decided on royal canin medium breed puppy chow it was a 5 star food.
now that im switching him back to the adult active medium breed i cannot find it on Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble, i just find the others but not the kind i get. the others have been reviewed as a one star i believe. WTF. im pissed that i've been working to switch him back to royal canin and spending close to 60 dollars a bag of what i believed to be very good dog food.
what....the....fuck....
im thinking about switching foods, should i. opinions anyone, someone?

60 bucks a bag!!! Seriously?? I feed TOTW-Prairie its a a 6 star food and its only 35 bucks a bag.
I'd switch plus most of what I can find for Royal Canin reviews has it rated at 2 stars.
Blue Buffalo is a good one on the cheaper side of the higher end foods if you are worried about money.

well im looking for a food that i dont have to worry about finding a back up place in case the original fails. thats the only reason i get my food at petsmart.
TOTW i've heard many people use that, thatsw a good option. do you know if petsmart carry's it. i've notice small business petshops run about 10 dollars more for a bag of food.
im not so much worried about money on food right now. i mean i dont want to be breaking the bank, but i only have one dog, Nismo. so its not like i am going through more than 1 bag every month or 2

Petsmart does not carry TOTW. You can usually find the higher end foods at a feed store like D&B or Tractor Supply or whatevers by you. Pet stores rarely carrying quality food.

he's on kirkland now but he's not doing good on it. he's been on it for the last like 4-5 months. i dont like it at all, i think he may be allergic to something in it.

I thought grizz was allergic to chicken so I switched him to pinnacle duck.... Now I feed raw chicken and he's fine LOL

nismo has never done very well on the kirkland brand, his coat is more dull and his stools are always pretty loose. it seems like it just goes right through him.
but i think im going to go trade in the bag i got for the buffalo wilderness

I have a question for everyone using kibble as a main source of food for your dogs. What would you do if a(nother) major alfatoxin or salmonella episode broke out or if there were a nation wide industry shut down of the type of kibble that you feed your dogs? What if all kibble manufacturers recalled thei kibble due to cross contamination nation wide?
Does anyone feed raw or natural.... or is everyone here 100% kibble dependant?

Eh i wouldn't do kirkland its rate 3 star but def not recommended

too many fillers for my taste.
No kibble is 100% safe and honestly you're dog has a better chance of getting salmonella from feeding RAW/BARF diets. If the food I feed had a problem then I'd just..find something else lol I feed half kibble/half raw

I feed my boy Blue Buffalo now, i was feeding him natural balance and it wasent working out to good. His coat was really dull and he was shedding alot. Since i switched foods, his coat is awsome and hardly no shedding. About feeding raw, its very risky also. Because you dont know the process its been through before it gets to you. When feeding raw meat, gotta worry about E. coli and Salmonella and other bacterial infections.
Does anyone have any experience with Instinct?

I fed Raw when Czar was 8-10 weeks old, his reaction to it was mixed. He personally loved it, but he wasn't digesting the vegetables, it just got very complicated trying to figure all the little details of the Raw diet. I haven't fully given up on it, i do give him something raw at least once a week. But its primarily kibble.

I feed 7-10oz of raw meat and 1/2 a cup of kibble plus ammenities. I'm confident I could go 100% raw if needed. I feel bad feeding kibble lol makes me feel lazy.

I wasn't refering to RAW/BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) brand of commercially manufactured dog food. I meant an actual raw and natural diet appropiate for a cornivores. Cornivores (dogs) simply put just do not have the digestive systems like humans do to cope with all of the grains that are in commercial feed today. Grains are the biggest sources of allergies in dogs today. Even your high priced so called "All Natural" brands!
Salmonella is found on raw, but it is also found in your fridge, your sink, your floor, your car and even in your bed. The strange thing though is that the only cases I've ever heard of dogs dying from salmonella were dogs fed commercially manufactured dog foods. Food for thought! I use white vinegar in a spray bottle when I feed to disinfect. I've been feeding my dogs raw and natural for over 25 years and have yet to have a single problem with bacterial infections with any of my dogs.
I've been asked in PM's by numerious members about my feeding program so in a nut shell, here's the basics. I feed a wide range of different raw meats and bones, preferably whole, ie: chicken, quail, venison, duck, rabbit and fish. I do not use/feed any raw that was raised in feedlots. All of my feed is as organic and as natural as possible. Remember, dogs are carnivores they do not need either fruit or vegetables, in fact some are harmful and even fatal. Yet, I still get PM's and e-mail's from people telling me how their petbull just loves him some grapes or rasins! UGH. Some people  I feel that the benefits of feeding raw far outweigh feeding any type of kibble, example: my dogs have naturally clean teeth so I don't have to buy chew toys that are dangerious or brush them and they've never had any type of gum disease. Also, the time that it takes for them to chew a raw bone give their stomach adequate time to get their natural acids moving, thats something kibble doesn't. There's a lot less stool than what a dog would be producing if feed commercially manufactured dog food. Puppies develop more appropriatly (no rapid weight gain due to improper diet & other reasons most of you reading this should already know), the ripping and chewing involved in eating raw meat and bones also develops the jaw, neck, and shoulder muscles of a dog. Commercial dog foods will never achive this and theres much, much more but I'll stop.
I'm just curious why so many sheep follow the wolf!

P.S. I do use kibble, but its less than 10% of my dogs total diet.

When I do raw I go to the butcher shop and usually get chicken, sometimes duck bones and all. and I don't feed my dogs veggies and fruit I am with you on they are carnivores its unecissary. I like feeding kibble as well just for the convience of it. I feed a grain free all natural meat kibble though..no corn, barley, beet pulp any of that crap in it.
I also DO NOT feed my dogs treats, table scraps, any of the crap that I eat lol.

i ended spending about 3 bucks more for the wilderness for 15#'s less then royal. but im happy with it, its going to be expensive, but i think he'll like it. it smells like something he's like.
also i have another question. i know it says on the back of the bag how much you should roughly feed per weight. but this stuff is so expensive that i dont want to over feed him when its not needed. he's gained about 4 #'s in a month, he's really starting to fill out. i'll weigh him on wednesday when i go to school with him. im guessing about 48#'s.

Btw try adding some ground up chicken backs to his diet! Your feed is probly more than $1/lb right? Well there are many raw meats you can get for less than $1/lb that are WAY better for your dog than any kibble. I'd go to a high end grocery store or butcher and see what they throw away!! You'd be suprised what you can walk outta there with stamped "no charge"
